Have we really understood Tawheed?


Shaykh Saaleh ahl-Shaykh mentions in his explanation of Kashf ash-Shubuhaat (Clarification of the Doubts), the following story:


Shaykh-ul-Islam Muhammad ibn Abdul-Wahhaab(rahimahullah) was with his students and after having completed the study of his book 'Kitab at-Tawheed', he wished to start again the study of this book for the 3rd or 4th time.

His students said to him : "O Shaykh, we wish to study another book, a book of fiqh or hadith".
The Shaykh replied: "Why (do you wish to study another book)?".
His students: "We have in fact understood Tawheed, we want to study another science".
The Shaykh: "Wait, I shall give some thought to this".
A few days later, the shaykh came to the lesson with a troubled face. His students asked him the reason for it.
The shaykh explained that he'd come across something which angered him. His students asked what it was.
The Shaykh: "It has been related to me that the inhabitants of a house have sacrificed a rooster (for a Jinn) in front of their door. I have sent someone to confirm this affair".
Some time later, his students asked him about the affair that he had mentioned.
The Shaykh replied: "In fact, the inhabitants of this house did not sacrifice for other than Allaah, but it was someone who fornicated with his mother".
Shocked, his students exclaimed:"We seek refuge with Allaah! He fornicated with his mother? We seek refuge with Allaah! He fornicated with his mother...".

After mentioning this story, Shaykh Saleeh explained that Shaykh-ul-Islam told this story to show them that the statement "We understand Tawheed" is ignorance and is one of the greatest tricks of the Shaytaan.
In fact, they have made greater a great sin [fornicating with one's mother] than shirk which exits from Islam.
Indeed, their hearts were not angered when the shirk that exits from Islam was mentioned.

And this also happens today, when some ignorant people see great sins and are angered by them, but when they hear about Shirk al-Akbar, or see people commiting shirk like sacrificing for other than Allaah, etc. this does not move their hearts.

This proves their ignorance. It proves that they have not understood Tawheed.

Hadith Qudsi-Superiority of Monotheism

Narrated Abu Huraira (radi Allahu anhu) Allah's Messenger (salla Allahu alaihi wa sallam) said: Allah (Most high) said: Among all partners, I am the most dispensable with association. So anyone who performs a deed in which he ascribes to Me others; I will abandon him and his act of polytheism.(This Hadith is sound and reported by Muslim.)

Shirk (polytheism) is a sin that if its doer dies without repentance, he will never be forgiven. Verily, whosoever sets up partners in worship with Allah, Allah has forbidden Paradise for him; the Fire will be his abode. One whose intention is not pure will deserve Hell. Purity of intention is essential in all deeds.

2166 – On the authority of Abu Dharr, who said: ‘My friend - Messenger of
Allaah -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam- ordered me with seven things :  He commanded me
to love the poor, and to come close to them. And he commanded me to
look at the one who is lower than me, and not look at the one above me.
And he commanded me to have good ties with my family even if they turn
away. And he commanded me not to ask anyone for anything. And he
commanded me to speak the truth even if it is bitter. And he commanded
me not to fear for Allaah the blame of those who rebuke, and he
commanded me to say :
There is no capability nor is there any power except with Allaah.
La hawla wa la quwwata illa billaa   لا حول و لا قوة الا بالله
often, as it is indeed from the treasures from under the ‘Arsh. [ And in a
narration : indeed it is a treasure from the treasures of Paradise.]

Q 2: What is the ruling on someone who mocks a Muslim woman wearing the proper Islamic Hijab (veil)

or describes her as being a ghost or a moving tent and other such insulting words?


A: Anyone who mocks a Muslim man or woman for adhering to the Shari‘ah (Islamic law) is a Kafir (disbeliever), whether the object of ridicule is Islamic Hijab or any other matter of Islam. ‘Abdullah ibn ‘Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrated: During the Campaign of Tabuk a man said in an assembly, ‘I have never seen anyone like these Qur’an reciters of ours. They have the biggest bellies, the most lying tongues and they are the most cowardly when encountering the enemy.’ Another man said, ‘You are lying, and you are a hypocrite. I will most certainly tell the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) [what you have said].’ The news was reported to the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him), then Ayahs of the Qur’an were revealed (concerning this incident). ‘Abdullah ibn ‘Umar said, ‘I saw him (that man) hanging onto the saddle of the she-camel of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him), stumbling over the stones while saying, ‘O Messenger of Allah, we were just jesting and playing.’ The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) was reciting: "Was it at Allâh (عز وجل), and His Ayât (proofs, evidence, verses, lessons, signs, revelations) and His Messenger (صلى الله عليه وسلم) that you were mocking?" Make no excuse; you disbelieved after you had believed. If We pardon some of you, We will punish others amongst you because they were Mujrimûn (disbelievers, polytheists, sinners, criminals.). Thus, ridiculing the believers is equated with ridiculing Allah, His Signs and His Messenger.

May Allah grant us success. May peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family and Companions.

Thirdly, from the statements of the Salaf and their Followers:
1. Abdullaah ibn Mas`ood رضي الله عنه said: “People will not cease to be in a good as long as knowledge emanating from the companions of Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم and their elders reach them. If however, knowledge comes to them by way of their young and their desires diversify, they will be ruined.” [Al-Zuhd of Ibn al-Mubaarak (815, 1/281)

2. He رضي الله عنه also said: “Whoever amongst you seeks to adopt a path, should take to the way of the companions of Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم; for they possessed the most pious hearts of this Ummah, were the most profound in knowledge, the least constraint of this Ummah, and the most guided. They were the people whom Allaah chose for the companionship of His Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم and the establishment of His religion. So know their rights and adhere to their guidance, for they indeed were upon the straight way.” [Jaami` Bayaan al-`Ilm wa Fadlih (1810, 2/947)]

4. Hudhayfah ibn al-Yamaan رضي الله عنه said: “O assembly of reciters! Remain upright and take to the way of those before you. For by Allaah, if you (choose to) follow them, then know that you have been outstripped by a long distance, and if you take to the right or left (of their path) then you will be upon severe deviation.” [Jaami` Bayaan al-`Ilm (1809, 2/947)]

5. Mujaahid رحمه الله said: “The scholars are the companions of Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم.” [Jaami` Bayaan al-`Ilm (1424, 1/770)]

6. Al-Awzaa`ee رحمه الله said: “Knowledge is that which emanates from the companions of Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم, as for anything else besides this, it is not knowledge.” Imam Ahmad, may Allaah have mercy upon him, also said this. [Jaami` Bayaan al-`Ilm (1420, 1/768 & 1421, 1/769)]

7. Al-Awzaa`ee رحمه الله said: “Patiently restrict yourself upon the Sunnah, stop where the people (ie the companions) stopped, say what they say and refrain from that which they refrained. Traverse upon the path of your Salaf al-Saalih, for indeed what was sufficient for them is sufficient for you.” [Al-Sharee`ah of al Aajurri (294, 2/673) and Sharh Usool `Itiqaad Ahl al-Sunnah of al-Laalikaa’i (5/1055)]

8. Al-Hasan al-Basree رحمه الله was in a gathering then he mentioned the Companions of Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم. He then remarked: “They possessed the most pious hearts of this Ummah, were the most profound in knowledge and the least constraint. A people, whom Allaah chose for the companionship of His Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم, so emulate their character and way, for by the Lord of the Ka’bah, they are upon the straight path.” [Jaami` Bayan al-`Ilm (1807, 2/946), Al-Sharee`ah of al Aajurri (1161, 4/1685 & 1984, 5/2494)]

9. Al-Awzaa`ee رحمه الله said: “Hold fast to the narrations of the Salaf, even if people abandon you. Beware of the opinions of men, no matter how much they beautify it with their speech, for indeed the matter will become manifest whilst you will be upon the correct straight path concerning it.” [Al-Madkhal ila al-Sunan of al-Bayhaqi (233) and the wordings are his and Jaami` Bayan al-`Ilm (2077, 2078, 2/1071) and Al-Sharee`ah (127, 1/445)]

10. Shaykh al-Islaam Ibn Taymiyyah رحمه الله said: “It is a must upon every Muslim, who testifies that none has the right to be worshiped except Allaah and that Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم is the Messenger of Allaah, that his basic intention be to single out Allaah in his worship of Him alone, without any partner and to obey His Messenger. He is to remain upon this, following it wherever he finds it, and he should know that the best of creation after the Prophets are the companions.
He should not therefore, offer absolute and unrestricted allegiance to any one person except the Messenger of Allaah صلى الله عليه وسلم. Nor should he offer absolute unrestricted allegiance to any one group except the companions; as the guidance remains with the Messenger صلى الله عليه وسلم wherever he remains, and it remains with his companions and no one else’s companions, wherever they remain.
If they are in agreement, they never agree upon something incorrect, in contrast to the companions of a particular scholar, they could agree upon something incorrect. In fact, everything that they (i.e. the companions of a particular scholar) have asserted to which none other from amongst this Ummah has asserted, can be nothing but incorrect, since the religion that Allaah has sent His messenger صلى الله عليه وسلم with is not conferred to any single scholar and his companions. If this was so, that person should be an equal to the Messenger of Allaah صلى الله عليه وسلم and this is similar to the belief of the Raafidhah regarding the ‘Infallible Imaam’.
Moreover, it is a must that the companions and their successors were aware of that truth with which Allaah had sent His Messenger صلى الله عليه وسلم, well before the presence of those who are followed; those whom the Madhhabs are attributed to, in relation to both fundamentals and subsidiary matters.
It is impossible for them to bring about a truth, which opposes what the Messenger صلى الله عليه وسلم brought, as everything that opposes the Messenger صلى الله عليه وسلم is falsehood. It is also impossible for them to know of something emanating from the Messenger صلى الله عليه وسلم which opposes (the knowledge and understanding of) the companions and their successors in righteousness, as they (i.e. the companions) did not unite upon any deviation. So his (i.e. a followed Imaam’s) saying, if true has to be taken from that which the Messenger صلى الله عليه وسلم brought and present with someone before him.
Every statement in the religion of Islam which lies in opposition to that which the companions and their successors in righteousness were upon, which none of them have asserted, but rather have said other than it, it is indeed a false saying.” [Minhaj al-Sunnah (5/261-263)]

Follow the Salaf : from the Sunnah

Secondly, from the Sunnah:
1. The Statement of the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم: “The best of people are my generation then those who succeed them, then those who succeed them” [Saheeh al-Bukhaaree (5/199, 7/6 and 11/460) and Saheeh Muslim (7/184 and 185)]
This excellence and goodness which the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم attested to for these three generations, is an indication of their preference, precedence and majestic rank as well as their knowledge of Allaah’s laws and intense adherence to the way of His Messenger صلى الله عليه وسلم.

2. The Messenger’s صلى الله عليه وسلم statement: “The Jews split up into seventy-one sects, the Christians split up into seventy-two sects and this Ummah will split up into seventy-three sects; all of them are in the Fire except one.” Someone asked: “Which is that one O Messenger of Allaah?” He صلى الله عليه وسلم replied: “Whoever is upon that which I am upon [today] and my companions. [Sunan Abu Dawood (4596-4597), al-Tirmidhee (2640-2641), Musnad of Imaam Ahmad (2/332, 3/120 145 and 4/120) and Ibn Majah (3991-3993) and the wordings are of al-Tirmidhee, and Shaikh al-Albaanee graded some of its chains as “Saheeh”, some as “Hasan Saheeh” and others as “Hasan”]

3. His صلى الله عليه وسلم statement: “… for indeed, those who will still be alive after me will see many differences; so hold fast to my Sunnah and to the Sunnah of the rightly guided khaleefahs after me. Adhere to and cling tightly to it and beware of newly-invented matters, for every newly-invented matter is an innovation and every innovation is a deviation.” [Musnad of Imaam Ahmad (4/126-127), Sunan Abu Dawood (4607), al-Tirmidhee (2676), Ibn Maajah (43) al-Daarimi (1/44) and others and graded as “Saheeh” by Shaikh al-Albaanee]
Hence, the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم encouraged his ummah to follow his Sunnah and the Sunnah of the rightly guided khaleefahs after him at the appearance of splits and differences.

Firstly, from The Noble Qur’aan:
Allaah تعالى says:
{And the former, the first from amongst the Muhaajiroon and the Ansaar, and those who followed them in righteousness, Allaah is pleased with them and they are pleased with Him. And He has prepared for them gardens of which rivers flow below, abiding therein forever, that is great success.} [Surah al-Tawbah (9):100]
Allaah تعالى is unreservedly pleased with the Muhaajiroon and the Ansaar, and is pleased with those who follow them in righteousness (i.e. the attainment of Allaah’s pleasure for the companions is secure, whereas for those who come after them; this is not guaranteed, as it is dependent upon their adherence to the way of the companions in righteousness).

Allaah تعالى also says:
{And whoever opposes the Messenger (صلى الله عليه وسلم) after the guidance has become clearly manifest to him and follows a path other than that of the believers, We shall leave him to that which he has adopted and land him in hell; what an evil destination!} [Surah al-Nisaa’ (4):115]
Allaah تعالى threatens those who follow a different path from that of the companions with the punishment of hell, and in the previous aayah, He promises His pleasure to those who follow them.

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم
In the name of Allah, the Most Merciful and Most Compassionate. Praise to the One Who completed this religion and sent guidance through His Messenger salAllahu ’alayhi wa sallam. To begin:
Every so often our daily lives preoccupy us and turn us away from Allah’s promise. When we walk out of our homes, turn on the radio, TV, or Internet, we are distracted by the evils we see and hear. As result of immorality and unashamed disobedience, our hearts grow hard and distant from Allah and His Messenger’s call. We know the message of Islam is true, but we are weak due to the rigidity of our heart, spirit and mind. In times like these, we need something to penetrate that stiffness. We need a remedy to soften that hardness and the inflexibility of our choices.
Disunity and harshness afflicts this Ummah today. Consequently, many people have turned away from brotherhood, caring, and even Islam itself. Their hearts have transformed into dwellings of complete hatred for a sinner, disdain toward the weak Muslim, and jealousy of their successful brother or sister.
I have selected some ahaadeeth from the most authentic book after the Qur’aan to soften the hearts in our chests. I used Shaykh Muhammad ibn Saalih Al-’Uthaymeen’s explanations for the ahaadeeth selected. The ahaadeeth selected come from a book in Imam Al-Bukhari’s collection titled Riqaq: Heart Softeners. This chapter brings tears to one’s eyes, fear to one’s mind, and most importantly it diminishes the rigidity in one’s heart. I ask Allah to make the translation and compilation solely for His pleasure. I pray to Allah for acceptance of this deed and His mercy in the Hereafter.

A Quality That Will Aid Us Perfect Our Islaam



In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful The Bestower of Mercy

On the authority of Abu Hurairah (radiyallaahu-anhu) who said: ”The Messenger of Allaah (sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam) said, ”Part of the perfection of a person’s Islaam is his leaving that which is of no concern to him” (Hassan Hadith. Reported by Imaam Tirmidhi and others)


Imaam Muhammad Ibn Saaleh al Uthaimeen (rahimahullaah) said:
From the benefits of this narration are:
[1]. Indeed, Islaam combines all the excellent qualities. Our Sheikh Abdur Rahmaan Bin Sa’di (rahimahullaah) has written a treatise on this topic (titled): ‘The Excellence of The Religion Of Islaam’. Likewise, Sheikh Abdul Azeez Bin Muhammad Bin Sulaymaan (rahimahullaah) has written a treatise on this topic.  And the excellent qualities of Islaam are combined in two statements: Allaah (The Mighty and Majestic) said:
‘’Verily, Allah enjoins Al-Adl (i.e. justice and worshipping none but Allah Alone – Islamic Monotheism) and Al-Ihsan [i.e. to be patient in performing your duties to Allah, totally for Allah's sake and in accordance with the Sunnah (legal ways) of the Prophet in a perfect manner], and giving (help) to kith and kin (i.e. all that Allah has ordered you to give them e.g., wealth, visiting, looking after them, or any other kind of help, etc.): and forbids Al-Fahsha’ (i.e all evil deeds, e.g. illegal sexual acts, disobedience of parents, polytheism, to tell lies, to give false witness, to kill a life without right, etc.), and Al-Munkar (i.e all that is prohibited by Islamic law: polytheism of every kind, disbelief and every kind of evil deeds, etc.), and Al-Baghy (i.e. all kinds of oppression), He admonishes you, that you may take heed.” [16:90]

[2] Part of the perfection of (a Person’s) Islaam is his leaving what is of no importance to him, and that which has no relation to his affairs and needs.

[3] One cannot perfect his Islaam through preoccupying himself with what does not concern him. This happens to many people, so you either find him speaking about affairs that do not concern him, or a person asks him about affairs that do not concern him and he enters into what does not concern him.  This leads to weakening of (one’s Islaam).

[4] Indeed, it is incumbent upon the person to seek after the excellent qualities of Islaam, in order to abandon what does not concern him and be at ease. He will exhaust himself if he busies himself with affairs that are neither important nor of concern to him.
(However) there is an ambiguity on this point here, and that is: Does the slave’s abandonment of that which does not concern him (mean) that he is to abandon Enjoining Good and Forbidding Evil? The Answer: No, because Enjoining Good and Forbidding Evil is something that concerns the person, as Allaah (The Mighty and Majestic) said: ”Let there arise out of you a group of people inviting to all that is good (Islam), enjoining Al-Ma’ruf (i.e. Islamic Monotheism and all that Islam orders one to do) and forbidding Al-Munkar (polytheism and disbelief and all that Islam has forbidden).” [3:104]
So if you see a person upon evil, you should say to him, ”O brother! This is evil. It is not permissible”. The person who witnesses that (evil) has no right to say, “This does not concern me”. It will not be accepted were you to say so, because enjoining good and forbidding evil concerns the entire ummah.  And there is (also) that which is connected to one’s the family, his sons and daughters (of enjoining good and forbidding evil).  It is the concern of the shepherd of the house to guide them towards good and command them with it, and to warn them against evil and prohibit them from that. He (The Mighty and Majestic) said: “O you who believe! Ward off yourselves and your families against a Fire (Hell) whose fuel is men and stones” [66:6]

Imaam Sa’di (rahimahullaah) said:
The Good Doer busies himself with what concerns him of obligations and abandons disobedience and evil deeds. He (abandons) that which does not befit him of the detested affairs and those permissible things that bring him no benefit, rather he loses goodness by indulging in them. So his (sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam) statement: “From the perfection of a person’s Islaam is his leaving that which is of no concern to him” has a more general meaning than what we have mentioned.  And the general meaning of this hadith is: The one who does not abandon that which does not concern him will harm his Islaam. That is why all the forbidden statements and actions are either prohibited with the verdict of “Haraam” or with a prohibition (indicating the abhorrence or repugnance of such statements and actions)

QUESTION
What are some things that will keep a person firm upon Salafiyyah and distant from the paths of misguidance?
ANSWER by Shaykh 'Ubayd Al-Jaabiree, well-known scholar and retired professor from the Islaamic University of Al-Madeenah [ audio in 'Arabic only ]
There are a number of affairs that will help someone in this. From them:
[1] Staying close to the people of knowledge, those who are known for:
[a] their capabilities;
[b] being foremost in virtues;
[c] being well versed in knowledge;
[d] their strength in (knowledge of) the Sunnah;
[e] their adherence to it;
[f] their harshness against the people of desires.
It is suitable that they are the ones to take (knowledge) from, the knowledge that is paired with wisdom.
[2] Staying distant from the people of innovation and desires, keeping away from their gatherings, and not subjecting oneself to their debating and argumentation.
[3] Reading the books authored by the Salaf, reading them with the scholars if that is possible. If that is not possible, then asking about the phrases or subjects which are difficult to understand within these Salafee books, asking the people of knowledge about them, so they can clarify any misunderstandings one encounters.

Simple Words For The Sensible One To Reflect Upon Concerning Our Circumstances Today!!!

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy
Shaikh Raslaan (may Allaah preserve him) said:
The Prophet (sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam) was sent within circumstances about which a Muslim cannot say, ”Indeed, the circumstances in which we live in is eviler and more deprave in its depravity than (the circumstances in which the Prophet was sent).”   (This is) because the Prophet (salal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam) was sent to a disbelieving people and he guided them through one way.  He directed them towards one path—to worship one Lord, one God, The Perfect Lord and Master upon Whom all the creation depends and He is self-sufficient, The Unique One in His Names, Attributes and Actions. There is neither another true God (worthy of worship) besides Him nor another true Lord (i.e. the creator, provider and controller of the affairs of the creation) besides Him.  So the way [of Prophet-salal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam in calling to Allaah in those circumstances] was one, and it was particularly the (way) the Messengers came with.  The Prophet (salal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam) called the Ummatud Dawah (i.e. the nation that had not yet accepted the message of Islaam) to that which is obligatory for today’s Ummatul Ijaabah (i.e. the nation that has already accepted the call of Islaam) to call to……

(Inspirational) The Advice of Asmaa bint Abu Bakr (radiallaahu anha) to her son Abdullah Ibn Zubair (radhi Allaahu anhu)

Below are the words of advise Asmaa bint Abu Bakr radiallaahu anha gave to her son at the age of over 100 years and he himself was over 60 years of age defending this deen and Allah (subhanna wa ta ala) had granted them the preservation of their faculties and vigour! May Allah Have Mercy upon them.Ameen.

The last stage of Abdullah Ibn Zubair life, and that was when he fought against Hajjaj, which was in the year beginning 70 A.H. Mekkah at that time was surrounded by Hajjajs’ Army and they had laid siege to Mekkah for approximately one and a half years……..
When he entered into Mekkah he (Hajjaj) sent a letter to Abdullah Ibn Zubair saying you have three choices;
  1. You can be taken and chained to Abdul Malik who was then the Khalifah of Damascus.
  2. Or leave by yourself and give up all the lands that he had overcome like Egypt, Iraq, Yemen /leave the Khalifa.
  3. Or continue fighting.
So he had these three chooses from Hajjaj. He then went to his mother (Asma bint Abu Bakr radiallaahu anha) who was still alive for advice and she was over a hundred years. So Abdullah Ibn Zubair said, to his mother,
“So the people have left me by myself, even my own son, no-one is with me except a handful of people all I have is an hour of patience and then death and if I were to do what the people want me to do then I will be free.”
So then Asmaa (radiallaahu anha) replied to her son, she said,
“You know better in your own self that if you are upon the truth and you are calling towards the truth go forth for people more honourable than you were killed and have been killed and if you are not upon the truth, then what an evil son you are, you have destroyed yourself and those who are with you. If you say what you say, that if you are upon the truth and you will be killed at the hands of others then you will not truly be free, for this is not the statement of someone who is free”.
Then she said to her son, this is the statement of the mother to her son,
“how long will you live in this world, death is more beloved to me than this state you are on/ this state of weakness.”
Then this conversation between Abdullah Ibn Zubair and his mother continued.
Then he said to his mother after she had told him to go forth and fight.
He said, “I am afraid I will be mutilated by the people of Sham,I am afraid that they will cut up my body after they have killed me”
So she said to her son,”after someone has died it won’t make any difference what they do to you if you have been killed.”
Abdullah Ibn Zubair then said to his mother,”I did not come to you except to increase myself in knowledge.” The shaikh wanted to point out,look at the manners which he presented towards his mother, this was the manners of the Salaf how they would behave towards their parents.
He said to her, “I did not come to you except to increase me in knowledge, look and pay attention to this day for verily I am a dead man, your son never drank wine, nor was he fornicator, nor did he wrong any Muslim or Kaafir, nor was he unjust, I am not saying this to you to show off or show how pure I am but rather as an honour to you.”
So then  Abdullah Ibn Zubair  left by himself on his horse and he was killed by the Army of Hajjaj and when he was killed by the Army of Hajjaj all the Army said “Allah hu Akhbar” and Ibn Umer (radiallaahu anhu) heard this and he said,
” how strange is it that this man when he was born all of the Muslims said “Allah hu Akhbar” and now that he is killed everyone is also saying “Allah hu Akhbar”.
Then Hajjaj crucified him and said,” No one must put down his body except Asmaa (radiallaahu anha ), she must come to me and ask permission of me and only then will his body be put down”.
Asmaa (radiallahu anha.) refused to go and ask permission to put down her sons body and it was said to her,
“if you don’t go his body will remain like that.” So she said ” let it be then”.
Until eventually, Hajjaj came to her and said,
“what do you say about this matter ” and she said,
” Verily you have destroyed him you have ruined his life and with that you have ruined your hereafter.”

Seeking Knowledge for the over 40 crowd


Advice from Shaykh Abdullah Bukhari

Question: Our Shaykh, may Allah bless you and benefit us with your knowledge.
The questioner says: These days I am beginning my quest for knowledge while I
am over forty years old. Thus what do you advise me with? May Allah reward you.

Shaykh Bukari: We ask Allah the Exalted to give him firmness and assistance. Thus
let him purify his intentions for Allah the Exalted, and be diligent and zealous. And
whoever purifies his intentions for Allah and seeks help from Allah the Exalted,
Allah will help him, and give him understanding, and inspire him, and guide him,
and grant him assistance upon everything that is difficult for him.
 And there is no criticism (for seeking knowledge at this age) Imaam Al Bukari,
may Allah have mercy upon him, mentioned that most of the Companions, or
many of the Companions sought knowledge while they were older in age. So
there is no problem with this. Seek help from Allah, and take the general advice
that we mentioned. And let him progress gradually, and devote himself to
studying. And there is nothing wrong with this, rather this is good. And whoever
Allah wants good for He gives him an understanding in the religion. We ask Allah
to make us and him firm upon the truth.

Question:
What is the ruling on fasting the day of Ashoora? Is it better to fast the day which is before or the day after it or to fast all of them together or fast the day of Ashooraa alone?

Answer:
Fasting the day of Ashooraa is a Sunnah due to what has been established in the authentic narrations of the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم) in indication to that.  And it (Ashooraa) was a day which the Jews fasted because it was the day in which Allah saved Moosaa (عليه السلام) and his people and destroyed Firawn and his people; so our Prophet Muhammad (صلى الله عليه وسلم) fasted it as (an act of) gratefulness to Allah.  He (sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam) authorized fasting (the day of ashooraa) and legislated for us to fast a day before or after it.  To fast the 9th along with the 10th is better, and if the 10th is fasted along with the 11th then that is sufficient to oppose the Jews.  And if you fast both of them (9th & 11th) alongside the 10th then there is no problem in that due to what has been transmitted in some reports, “Fast a day before it and a day after it”.  As for fasting Ashooraa by itself, then it is disliked.  And Allaah (alone) is the Guardian and Owner of all success.

Shaykh Ahmad al-Subay'ee: A Beautiful Admonition to a Person of the Sunnah Against Being Fooled By the Trickery of the People Who Desert (Ahl al-Sunnah)

النهي الحسن الجميل لصاحب السنة أن تنطلي عليه حِيَلُ أهل التخذيل A Beautiful Prohibition to the Person of Sunnah against Being Fooled by the Trickery of the People of At-Takhdheel (Those Who Do Not Aid the Truth & its People) [1]

Written by the noble Shaykh Ahmad Hussain as Subay'ee[2] may Allaah preserve him
All praise is due to Allaah, may the peace and blessings be upon the Messenger of Allaah and his family, to proceed: The Prophet (Salallaahu alayhi wa salam) came out to the Sahaabah whilst they were discussing poverty and (how) they feared it - as is reported in the hadith of Abi Dardaa (Radhyi Allaahu 'anhu) reported by Abu Dawud and others - so he (Salallaahu alayhi wa salam) said,
آلفقر تخشون؟! فوالله لتفتحن عليكم الدنيا، ثم لَتَصُبَّنَّ عليكم صبّاً حتى لا يزيغ قلب أحدكم إلا هي؛ لقد تركتكم على مثل البيضاء
Is it poverty that you fear?! By Allaah, the world will be opened for you, then its abundance will be poured upon you and nothing will cause the heart of anyone of you to go astray except that. Indeed I have left you upon a clear and white path. [3]
So from the great benefits (derived) from this narration: That the Muslim may fear something and try to protect himself from it. And the harm upon him is in other than that which he seeks protection from.
Many of the people in these times (due to them being overcome with desires and ignorance being widespread) fear and scare others about falling into extremism and harshness, though being correct in and of itself, it has however become from the truths by way of which falsehood is intended.
And the evil that is prevalent and excessive but has been missed by some of the people of knowledge, is the evil of at-Takhdheel (not aiding the truth and its people). It has come with all its cavalry and might upon the youth of Ahlus Sunnah. They have become weak in their conviction and their clinging to the Sunnah and its foundational principles. They are weak in having good thoughts of the Scholars of the Sunnah, weak in connecting with them and returning back to them.
And when the Prophet (Salallaahu alayhi wa salam) clearly and manifestly mentioned that the Saved, Aided group would remain, he established a proof and made an affair clear. He (Salallaahu alayhi wa salam) established a similarity between those who openly oppose the truth in their harming the call to the Sunnah, and between those who do not aid the call to the Sunnah. Just as the Prophet (Salallaahu alayhi wa salam) said:
لا تزال طائفة من أمتي على الحق ظاهرين، لا يضرهم من خذلهم ولا من خالفهم حتى يأتي أمر الله
There will not cease to be a group from amongst my nation, apparent (manifest) upon the truth. They will not be harmed by those who do not aid them, nor by those who oppose them. Until the affair of Allaah comes. [4]
So these words serve as a reminder for the one whose heart possesses life, and he has steadfastness in his clinging to the Sunnah - that perhaps it may aid the heedless to return, and the intelligent to submit.
1: At-Takhdheel (not aiding the truth and its people): is deterring from the Path of Allaah (the Mighty and Majestic) and deterring from the Path of Allaah (the Mighty and Majestic) is from the characteristics of the disbelievers, Allaahýs refuge is sought. This occurs much in the Qurýaan, as in the Saying of Allaah, (the Mighty and Majestic):
الَّذِينَ يَصُدُّونَ عَن سَبِيلِ اللّهِ وَيَبْغُونَهَا عِوَجاً وَهُم بِالآخِرَةِ كَافِرُونَ
Those who deter (men) from the Path of Allaah, and would seek to make it crooked, and they were disbelievers in the Hereafter [al-A'raaf: 45]
And Allaah the Most High Said:
الَّذِينَ يَسْتَحِبُّونَ الْحَيَاةَ الدُّنْيَا عَلَى الآخِرَةِ وَيَصُدُّونَ عَن سَبِيلِ اللّهِ وَيَبْغُونَهَا عِوَجاً أُوْلَـئِكَ فِي ضَلاَلٍ بَعِيدٍ
Those who prefer the life of this world to the Hereafter, and deter (men) from the Path of Allaah and seek crookedness therein - they are far astray [Ibraheem: 3]
2 - At-Takhdheel (not aiding the truth and its people): Is from the characteristics of the hypocrites, and this is (mentioned) much in the Qurýaan, as in His ý The Most Highýs ý Saying:
لَوْ خَرَجُواْ فِيكُم مَّا زَادُوكُمْ إِلاَّ خَبَالاً ولأَوْضَعُواْ خِلاَلَكُمْ يَبْغُونَكُمُ الْفِتْنَةَ وَفِيكُمْ سَمَّاعُونَ لَهُمْ وَاللّهُ عَلِيمٌ بِالظَّالِمِينَ
Had they marched out with you, they would have added to you nothing except disorder, and they would have hurried about in your midst (spreading corruption) and sowing sedition among you - and there are some among you who would have listened to them. And Allaah is the All-Knower of the wrong-doers [at-Tawba: 47]
3 - At-Takhdheel (not aiding the truth and its people): Is abandonment of the obligatory legislated support for and aid of the truth and its people, which Allaah has made a sign of the truthfulness of eemaan, Allaah - The Most High - Said:
وَالَّذِينَ آمَنُواْ وَهَاجَرُواْ وَجَاهَدُواْ فِي سَبِيلِ اللّهِ وَالَّذِينَ آوَواْ وَّنَصَرُواْ أُولَـئِكَ هُمُ الْمُؤْمِنُونَ حَقّاً لَّهُم مَّغْفِرَةٌ وَرِزْقٌ كَرِيمٌ
And those who believed, and emigrated and strove hard in the Cause of Allaah, as well as those who gave (them) asylum and aid - these are the believers in truth, for them is forgiveness and a generous provision (i.e. Paradise)[al-Anfaal:74]
Allaah - The Most High - Said:
فَالَّذِينَ آمَنُواْ بِهِ وَعَزَّرُوهُ وَنَصَرُوهُ وَاتَّبَعُواْ النُّورَ الَّذِيَ أُنزِلَ مَعَهُ أُوْلَـئِكَ هُمُ الْمُفْلِحُونَ
So those who believe in him (Muhammad (Salallaahu alayhi wa salam border=0>, honour him, help him, and follow the light (the Qur'aan) which has been sent down with him, it is they who will be successful [al-A'raaf:157]
4 - At-Takhdheel (not aiding the truth and its people): Is oppression upon the people of truth, and lead to an increase in trials and afflictions.
5 - At-Takhdheel (not aiding the truth and its people): Is a mighty sin. The Prophet (Salallaahu alayhi wa salam) equated it to having enmity towards the truth and opposing it.
6 - At-Takhdheel (not aiding the truth and its people): In its origin does not afflict a truthful believer, because his motivation towards eemaan and truthfulness will cause him to act in a manner that is contrary to takhdheel. And for this reason at-Takhdheel has not been warned against on its own. As for extremism, it may be caused by anger for the sake of Allaah, (The Might and Majestic) and zealousness upon avoiding that which He forbade, and a desire to aid His religion. Extremism can come about when all this is accompanied with ignorance and is not referred back to the scholars.
7 - At-Takhdheel (not aiding the truth and its people): Necessitates that a person follows his desires. This is because the person of at-Takhdheel strives to prevent all refutations, and does not act with justice as is obligatory. If he was acting justly, he would reject only the part of the refutation which may have some excessiveness in it, if any at all, and he would accept the Truth contained in the refutation, which is its foundation. This, as an example, is like how the Prophet (Salallaahu alayhi wa salam) ordered that the rulers should be fought alongside, whether they are righteous or sinful (so we reject the sins clearly, but maintain obedience to the ruler); as was stated by Shaikhul-Islaam Ibn Taymiyyah.
8 - At-Takhdheel (not aiding the truth and its people): Is caused by sicknesses of the heart, such as weakness of conviction, instability of the heart, having doubts, cowardice, fear, impatience and covetousness for the dunya. 9 - At-Takhdheel (not aiding the truth and its people): From its calamities is that its evil is not apparent, so he (the one who does not aid the truth and its people) manifests the Sunnah. And he claims to be compassionate and giving sincere advice. So he resembles a snake that is smooth to the touch; that hides within a garment.
10 - At-Takhdheel (not aiding the truth and its people): Makes the conflict we see today between Ahlus Sunnah and those who oppose them appear to be one of mere mistakes and ijtihadaat (positions that are taken in the absence of a clear text), that does not necessitate splitting, or abandonment. Then these people (those who do not aid the truth and its people) accuse the people of knowledge of following their desires, then the [actual] people of desires become the people of knowledge [with them]; and not those being refuted.
11 - At-Takhdheel (not aiding the truth and its people): Contains within it a complete resemblance to the innovated groups and parties, in regards to its defense of its leaders and its ways.
1: Its people are eager to confine the conflict to being mistakes not innovations. 2: Its people describe the people of truth with extremism and harshness 3: They call for cooperation with the innovated groups and parties, or belittle the differences between them.
So is it conceivable, that this complete conformity of concepts and methods; doesn't have in it an indication of their resemblance to the innovated groups and parties in the concepts that they hold? If not, why then did the Prophet (Salallaahu alayhi wa salam) say,
من تشبه بقومٍ فهو منهم
Whosoever resembles a people, then he is from them.
So be warned O person of Sunnah! Lest you oppose the call of the Sunnah, or you become one who is with the Mukhadhileen, those who do not aid the truth and its people.
And the topic [at hand] is not the condition of one or two men. Indeed it is a huge continuation of the conflict concerning the fundamentals of the Sunnah, with numerous names (individuals), efforts and writings. These oppositions to the foundations of the sunnah are found in various individuals: [with] 'Alee Hasan, and Mustafah Ismaýeel Abil Hasan, and Adnaan Ar'oor. So do not restrict yourself to an individual in your mind. And do not let an issue enter upon you, and you are pulled in to an opinion, way or statement that has gone to far extents in betraying the Sunnah.
Be mindful of Allaah, again, be mindful of Allaah regarding the honour of the major scholars of Sunnah, and its well known scholars, such as Shaykh Rabee' ibn Haadee (may Allaah preserve him) and Shaykh 'Ubayd al-Jaabiree (may Allaah preserve him). And beware of placing yourself on the same side of the scales of the leaders of whom they have aimed the criticism and advice. And do not forget the striving that the two of them undertook, and do not forget their virtue and the praise of the people of knowledge for them.
And do not let some of the doubts and ambiguities lead you or push you to aid the enemies of the Sunnah, such as 'Alee Hasan, and Abul Hasan, and 'Adnaan Ar'oor and their like.
So beware of both of these groups: al-Mukhalifeen (those who oppose) and al-Mukhadhileen (those who do not aid the truth and its people). And if you are not strong in understanding, and you are unable to comprehend, then which of the two is more befitting to blindly follow - if it was permissible at all? Would it be 'Alee Hasan, 'Adnaan Ar'oor, the callers to gathering numbers and playing with the Sunnah or the known manifest advisors [upon the Sunnah] such as Shaykh Rabee' and Shaykh 'Ubayd?!
And do not allow yourself to be shaken or allow your intellect or heart to be taken [by the belief] that consideration [and holding on to] the men [the scholars] during times of trial and afflictions is considered fanaticism of the scholars. Rather, it is a must that the Sunnah has upright, trustworthy men that carry it, in every time and every place. Imaam al-Laalikaali rahimahullaah said:
There were those within Islaam from whom this path was taken, an enumerable number of men, I mention their names at the beginning of this book, so that you may know them, and you may increase in sending [salutations of] mercy upon them and making duýaa for them. This is due to them preserving for us this way (the Manhaj of the Salaf), and it was them that guided us to the way of the Sharee'ah.
So you are in front of two groups, two paths. The path of the people of knowledge and Sunnah, such as Shaykh Rabee' ibn Haadee and Shaykh 'Ubayd al Jaabiree (may Allaah preserve them) and those who aid them upon their great efforts from amongst the people of knowledge. And the [second] methodology of 'Alee Hasan, and Abul Hasan al Maýribi and 'Adnaan Ar'oor and their like. This is the origin of the affair, and that which stems from it by way of names, topics, writings and subjects, all follow on from this battle between the Sunnah and the bitaanatul-Jamaa'aat (those upon the way of the innovated groups and parties, but in a concealed and hidden way). So seek guidance from Allaah and humble yourself to Him, that you may tread the path of the Sunnah and aid it. And do not tread the path of opposition or the path of abandoning the people of the truth.
And if you were to say, "I prefer seclusion", then I say, you have made a better choice than to choose the path of 'Alee Hasan and those who preceded him and [those who] followed him. Because if you were to seclude yourself in clinging to the Sunnah, searching for the truth, returning to the trustworthy scholars of the Sunnah then perhaps you will have time to think over and the opportunity to acquaint yourself with becoming accustomed to return to the truth and aid it.
As for remaining alongside the one who is treacherous in regards to the Sunnah, helping and aiding him; throwing yourself into the doubts of the bitaanatul-Jamaa'aat (those upon the way of the innovated groups and parties, but in an unapparent and hidden way), then you are one that is close to destruction; if you are not already destroyed.
والله وحده الهادي إلى سواء السبيل
And Allaah, Alone, is The One who guides to the straight path.

These individuals are from the most excellent sincere Salafis in calling to the da'wah of the Salaf, may Allah bless you. So they are the first people to take knowledge from and to take the minhaj of the Salaf from. I don't believe that a Salafi would prevent someone from studying with them and if there is someone who opposes them then let him fear Allah and do not block the people from the path of Allah and from taking the minhaj of the Salaf from its proper people. And I urge the brothers to be serious and diligent in studying because verily the people are yearning for this minhaj of the salaf and this 'aqeedah of the Salaf therefore gain an understanding of it so you can call to the path of Allah the Blessed and Exalted and with it you can establish all of your worldly affairs.
